Point Loma Heights has two schools. Noted as one of the best schools in Silver Gate Elementary. It is rated 10. Sbc-High Technical High is close by and rated higher than the San Diego Unified School District.
Dining and Shopping
Seafood is popular in Point Loma. Mitch’s Seafood Restaurant, located at San Diego’s working waterfront with views of the fishing fleets, is one that you don’t want to miss. For an Italian Cuisine with a rustic and refined atmosphere, head on over to Pomodoro Ristorante Italiano. You will be greeted with Italian music and colorful “Tomato Inspired” decor.
There are also many small boutique-style shops throughout Point Loma as well as big retail stores. San Diego’s Sports Arena is home to Kobey’s Swap Meet, an enormous outdoor market that takes place Friday-Sunday. Interesting furniture, art, antiques, food, and Nik-naks can be found at Kobey’s.
Entertainment
With waterfront views of San Diego, visiting their dock-and-dine restaurant, Bali Hai is a pleasure. If you are fortunate to be on a boat, you can motor up to the restaurant. Other restaurants that people flock to around the marina are the Kona Kai Dining Room as well as the Red Snails. You can also keep it simple and visit the neighborhood bars that are simply down to earth.
Parks and Recreation
In the center of Point Loma, there is a small neighborhood community sports park that houses two baseball fields and four tennis courts. The little league plays here as well as Concerts that take place in the summer.
On both sides of Nimitz Boulevard in Collier Park, the park has a play area for children and also is the home of Point Loma Native Plant Reserve.
The 10,000 square foot park overlooks Point Loma Marina and is surrounded by the waterfront promenade. Some of the most beautiful sunset views of the hillsides of Point Loma peninsula and San Diego Bay can be seen from this area.
